Matthew Broderick: Life After the 80s

Matthew Broderick is best known for his title role in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which came out in 1986 and is one of his biggest hits to date. He acted in several other 80s movies, including Glory and Project X, and people usually identify him as an 80s movie star. What many people don’t realize or remember is that he was only in his early twenties during those films with a lot of good acting years ahead of him. So, you might be asking: what has he done since?

He Was Busiest in the 90s

Broderick actually starred in more 90s films than 80s films, surprisingly enough! You’ve probably seen a lot of his movies and television appearances, but may not have realized it was him at the time. He participated in voice acting alongside regular acting and even made appearances on television shows, including the popular show, Frasier. In terms of voice acting, did you know he voiced the adult Simba in one of Disney’s most popular movies in history, The Lion King? He continued the role in Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and Lion King 1 ½.

He’s had Several Big Roles

Broderick also showed off his voice acting chops in the children’s film, The Tale of Despereaux, where he voiced the main character, a valiant mouse named Despereaux. Another popular Disney film that Broderick starred in was Inspector Gadget. He claimed the title role as a security guard whose wildest dreams come to life when he is turned into a cybernetic police officer. After the turn of the century, Broderick began doing more television, including appearances on Louie, Adventure Time, 30 Rock, and Modern Family.

He’s Not Done Yet

He is currently working on three projects: Dirty Weekend, a comedy/drama starring Broderick alongside Alice Eve and Phil Burke; The Gettysburg Address, a documentary concerning Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address; and an Untitled Warren Beatty Project, which will focus on the affair Howard Hughes had during the later years of his life. Each of these films are set to release sometime this year, so we cannot wait to see Matthew Broderick in theaters once again.
