Being a cheerleader is tough, but no one really knows how difficult it really is. These women are forced to follow strict rules about everything in their lives, from what to wear to how to eat. Even their social media is strictly monitored! Some of this stuff is so harsh that it’s basically the same rules English royalty must follow, although we’re going to argue that some are even worse.

How did we learn about these well-kept rules? Well, recent lawsuits have brought their horrible nature to light. Former cheerleaders from various teams ratted the owners out for fair pay violations and an array of other legal issues. Cheerleading handbooks were leaked, and we got a stark look at everything, including the fact that they don’t get paid. After reading about the settlements and the backpay, it’s obvious that cheerleading is why unions were created.

Here is a list of the 30 insanely strict rules that every cheerleader in the NFL must follow. Whether for keeping up appearances or for liabilities sake, to keep your job in this tough business, means to live by these rules. Some of these rules you will not even believe. Let's take a look at them!

You’d think that cheerleaders get paid really well considering they’re the face of many NFL teams. However, until very recently, cheerleaders didn’t even get paid minimum wage. A few laws were pushed through, and now, they get paid slightly more – and we do mean slightly. Several media sites published NFL cheerleaders get between $50 to $75 per public appearance.

Average NFL Cheerleader Pay

However, one former cheerleader for Dallas spilled the beans on their actual pay. She stated that she gets $3,000 per season. Other sources claim that they can get up to $20,000 to $75,000 if they’re very experienced (which few cheerleaders qualify for). Cheerleaders also get a bonus if the team goes to the playoffs or the Super Bowl.

At the time, many derided it as hideous and a publicity stunt, but it has since gone down as one of the most memorable dresses of all time—even if it isn't exactly beloved. She says David Bowie was the inspiration behind the dress.
