Star Trek Beyond (July 22)

Star Trek Beyond (July 22)

With J.J. Abrams leaving the director’s seat to pursue other projects, it is unclear where the Star Trek franchise is headed. If the new trailer and director Justin Lin’s previous work (Fast & Furious) are any indication, then this will be much more action-packed than anything that has ever come out of the Star Trek universe before. Also, Idris Elba is attached to the film, and he has yet to give a bad performance.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Dec. 16)

With The Force Awakens, Disney proved that the Star Wars franchise was in capable hands. Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a side plot that follows a group of rebel pilots. It will be interesting to see a story that takes place in this vast universe that doesn’t zoom in on the same characters. The impressive cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, and Forest Whitaker.

It has been two decades since we last saw our heroes fend off an alien invasion, and the space bugs from the first film have returned to finish what they started. The people of Earth must put aside their differences so that they can come together and save the planet. Though sequels 20 years after the original don’t have a great track record (Looking at you, Dumber and Dumber To), the creative minds behind Resurgence have many people excited to see what will come.

Passengers (Dec. 21)

We know relatively little about Passenger, which makes it all the more enticing. Pratt and Lawrence are two of the most discussed stars at the moment, and we are all excited to see how they play off one another.
