Pizza Bouquets
Nothing will help you remember your big day like a grease stain on the front of your wedding dress. And who in their right mind is gonna watch to catch that when it comes time for the big toss?
Tide Pod Challenge
Maybe the inventor of the Tide Pod challenge was just joking around, but more than a few people actually recorded themselves chowing down on laundry detergent. It should go without saying, but we're gonna anyways--don't try this at home.
Flourless Cookie Dough Bread
This trend was big on Instagram in May of 2020, and it's a textbook example of looks being deceiving. While this no doubt looks like the best thing ever baked in an oven, it apparently tastes heinous. And that's something most people can tell from just looking at the ingredient list--there's no sugar in this recipe.
Charcoal Foods
We're not sure why anyone would want their food to be black as night, but adding activated charcoal to almost every food imaginable is, unfortunately, a thing online. Sometimes the black hue is achieved with squid ink instead, which is not any better in our book.
Paqui One Chip Challenge
This is one viral food trend where the food itself isn't gross--the person trying it is. These individually wrapped chips from Paqui are flavored with the deadly hot Carolina Reaper pepper. So, after popping one of these in your mouth, be ready for a lot of tears, sweat, mucus, and pain.
Raclette Cheese
Viral videos of restaurants serving this giant cheese were all the rage a few years ago. We're no cheese haters, but we just don't get what's so tasty about setting a giant block of cheese on fire and scraping a big glob onto your plate.
Cooking with Gatorade
Most people realize that Gatorade isn't broth, but apparently not everyone has gotten the memo. Ridiculous images of people cooking up pasta, rice, or worse in bright blue Gatorade have cropped up on the internet from time to time.
Boba in Everything
Boba pearls are round, starchy balls made from tapioca and are frequently found in teas--especially in southeast Asia. However, they've expanded beyond this, and now it seems like people are throwing boba on everything under the sun. We have to draw the line at pizza.
Corona-Shaped Food
Some chefs have been getting...creative during lockdown. But we'll pass on anything that looks as terrifying and unappetizing as that!
Rainbow Bagels
Rainbow bagels had a moment in 2016, but they still look as unappetizing as ever. Unless you're talking about fruit, there's just no way that a food can taste good and look as bright as beautiful as that.
Hummus Milkshakes
There's nothing wrong with hummus, but it definitely needs to stay in its own lane. There's no reason to put it in a milkshake, and even if you can't taste it, you know it's there--and that's bad enough.
Raindrop Cakes
Raindrop cakes look like they belong in a sci-fi TV show, not a restaurant. These originated in Japan in 2014 but have jiggled and slithered their way across the globe now.
Gold Chicken Wings
People have been putting edible gold on things for a while now, but things took a real ridiculous turn when a NYC restaurant started offering 24-karat gold chicken wings in 2018. They may look pretty, but at the end of the day, you're eating metal.
Cauliflower Pizza Crust
I'm sure someone did this in the name of health, but this is just a step too far. The idea that a vegetable (cauliflower, no less!) could replace the deliciousness of original pizza crust is basically an affront to the entire country of Italy.
Cotton Candy Burritos
You'll be relieved to know that there aren't any actual authentic ingredients in this "burrito." But that's barely any comfort once you realize it's just ice cream and cereal wrapped in cotton candy.
Pumpkin Spice Everything
Pumpkin spice was annoying enough when it just showed up in coffee, but these days it's everywhere--and they've amped up the gross factor to 10. Chips, Spam, hummus, and more have all fallen to this fall scourge.
Crossushi
Fusion food is all the rage, but the world absolutely didn't need to know what happens when you mix a croissant with sushi. The result is just about an weird and unappetizing as you'd expect.
Unicorn Food
We're not sure what a unicorn tastes like, but you can recognize this obnoxious food trend by its sickeningly sweet pink and blue hues. Everything from ice cream to popcorn has fallen under the spell of this mythical creature.
Glitter Lattes
Glitter lattes might look shiny and beautiful now, but give them time. While there is food-safe glitter, that doesn't make it edible or digestible. So, don't be surprised if things are a little more sparkly and shimmery when nature calls...
Mukbang
Mukbang is a trend that originated in South Korea that involves streamer eating large quantities of food on camera--and for some reason, people tune in like crazy. People are allowed to do whatever they want with their bodies, but I think some of these streamers don't realize that, even if you're monetizing it, it's still binge eating.
