National Hot Dog Day

National Hot Dog Day is a sizzling celebration dedicated to one of America’s favorite foods! Observed on the third Wednesday in July, this holiday brings hot dog fans together to honor the classic treat that’s a staple at cookouts, ballgames, and summer gatherings.
The holiday was started by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council in the early 1990s. Many places offer discounted or even free hot dogs, making it the perfect day to relish (pun intended!) this iconic snack!
National Best Friends Day

National Best Friend Day, celebrated on June 8, is a day to honor the special bond between besties. It’s a time to show appreciation for the friends who’ve seen us through thick and thin, laughs and tears.
The holiday started in the United States in the 1930s as a simple way to celebrate friendship. Over the years, it gained popularity, especially with the rise of social media, where friends now post shoutouts and sweet tributes!
Pi Day

Pi Day, celebrated on March 14 (3/14), honors the famous mathematical constant p (3.14159…). It’s a fun excuse for math lovers and pie lovers alike to come together and celebrate with all things circular—and delicious!
Physicist Larry Shaw started Pi Day in 1988 at San Francisco’s Exploratorium. Pi Day has become an official holiday in math circles, classrooms, and beyond, with celebrations that include eating pie, reciting digits, and marveling at math’s quirkiest constant!
National Cat Herders Day

National Cat Herders Day is—unfortunately—not about cats. The December 15 holiday is a lighthearted nod to all those managing tough or chaotic tasks. Inspired by the impossible idea of “herding cats,” it celebrates those who bring order to life’s challenges.
The holiday was created in 2001 by author Thomas Roy and his wife, Ruth, to humorously honor people with difficult or unmanageable jobs. While herding cats isn’t exactly realistic, it’s a purrfect metaphor for anyone dealing with the daily chaos of life!
National Take Your Dog to Work Day

National Take Your Dog to Work Day gives dog lovers a chance to bring their furry friends to the office! Celebrated each year on the Friday after Father’s Day, it’s a day to boost office joy—and wagging tails.
The holiday started in 1999, created by Pet Sitters International to celebrate dogs and promote adoption. What better way to spread smiles and raise awareness than with puppies at work? Now this is a holiday we can get behind.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Arrr, matey! National Talk Like a Pirate Day is celebrated every September 19, giving land-dwellers everywhere a chance to embrace their inner swashbuckler. This playful holiday encourages everyone to toss in some “yo-ho-ho’s” and “ahoy’s” for a day of nautical nonsense.
The holiday began in 1995, when two friends, John Baur and Mark Summers, invented it during a game of racquetball. Their inside joke caught on when humor columnist Dave Barry promoted it in 2002, and pirate fans worldwide have been joining since!
Star Wars Day

“May the Fourth be with you!” Star Wars Day began as a fan-created play on words. It’s a punny twist on the iconic line, “May the Force be with you,” and has since become a beloved, unofficial holiday for fans worldwide.
The phrase gained traction in 1979 when a newspaper used it to celebrate Margaret Thatcher’s election. But over the years, fans turned May 4th into a true Star Wars celebration, complete with costumes, marathons, and epic lightsaber duels!
Galentine's Day

Galentine’s Day is a pre-Valentine’s celebration dedicated to female friendships. Created on Parks and Recreation, it’s all about brunch, bonding, and “ladies celebrating ladies.” Falling on February 13, it’s a day for showing love and appreciation—no romantic partner required!
The holiday was invented by Leslie Knope, the ultimate friend and fan of grand gestures, on the episode “Galentine’s Day.” The episode is a hilarious and heartfelt celebration of friendship, and the holiday has become a real-life celebration embraced by friends everywhere.
Treat Yo' Self Day

We can thank Parks and Recreation for yet another fun-filled holiday. Treat Yo’ Self Day, October 13, is all about splurging on yourself—whether it’s fancy clothes, spa treatments, or gourmet treats. It’s a “treat yo self” moment, guilt-free!
Tom and Donna introduced the holiday on the iconic episode “Pawnee Rangers.” The two dedicated one day a year to spoiling themselves outrageously. We’re a big fan of the episode as well as the reminder to celebrate ourselves.
Festivus

Festivus is the anti-holiday for those who are tired of the Christmas season’s frills and jingles. It features quirky traditions like the “Airing of Grievances” and the “Feats of Strength.” No glittering tree here—just an undecorated aluminum pole!
The holiday debuted in the 1997 Seinfeld episode “The Strike,” when George’s dad explains his disdain for holiday commercialism. His solution? Festivus, a no-frills celebration for “the rest of us!” The episode resonated with fans craving an offbeat holiday.
