The Weirdest Names Celebrities Chose for Their Kids

X Æ A-12

X Æ A-12

Welp, Elon Musk and his wife, Grimes, have officially taken the cake for weirdest celebrity kid name. They named their newborn daughter X Æ A-12, and when asked why (why, why, why), Grimes took to Twitter to explain: "X, the unknown variable...Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)...A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent [heart emoji] + (A=Archangel, my favorite song) ([sword emoji] [rat emoji] metal rat)"

Blue Ivy Carter

When your mom and dad are megastars Beyonce and Jay-Z, you can’t have just any name. It’s no surprise the couple picked something different for their first born, and they even trademarked her name when she was just a month old.

Mom Busy Phillips has said that she was called "Busy" as a nickname for Elizabeth when she was growing up. Instead of calling her children by nicknames, she said she and her husband decided that they would just name their children what they wanted to call them. Why name them one thing and call them something else? We can't say we disagree.

North, Saint, & Chicago West

North, Saint, & Chicago West

Parent's Kim and Kanye didn't just do it once. They did it THREE times. According to grandma Kris Jenner, the name North was chosen because “North is the highest power. And their baby North, their little girl, is the highest point and power between the two of them.” So at least there's an explanation.

Instead of having to choose between all of the names that they liked, Uma Thurman and her husband decided to name their daughter all of them at once. To keep things short, they call her "Luna."

Everly Tatum

Everly Tatum

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum welcomed their first child, a girl, on May 31, 2013. They named her Everly Elizabeth Maiselle Tatum. Though it’s not clear how they came up with the first name, the two middle names were picked in honor of both of their grandmothers.

Arrow, Zeppelin, & Justice Ackles

Twins are double the trouble and doubly cute! Supernatural hunk Jensen Ackles and wife Danneel Harris named their adorable twins Arrow and Zeppelin. Their older sister Justice makes this the second family on the list with a trio of unique names.

Apple Martin

Apple Martin

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter is probably the most famous celebrity child with a unique name. The Martin-Paltrow's arguably started the trend back (or at least raised the trend's profile) in 2004 when she was born.

Denim & Diezel Braxton-Lewis

Denim & Diezel Braxton-Lewis

Toni Braxton and Keri Lewis went with a clothing theme for both their children's names. Diesel (with an "s" as opposed to a "z") is an Italian company famous for their jeans, though we're sure that's just coincidental.

Huckleberry Grylls

Huckleberry Grylls

When he was born in 2009, Bear Grylls and his wife Shara named their son Huckleberry, though they have said they call him "Huck" for short.

Maple Bateman

Maple Bateman

The Arrested Development star picked a sweet sounding name for his daughter, but when combined with the last name it kind of sounds like "maple bacon."

Dad Jason Lee (from My Name is Earl) and his then-wife Beth Riesgraf chosen a name that sounds more like an occupational title for their son.

Story Elfman

Story Elfman

Apparently, it was dad Bodhi who came up with the name Story. Upon hearing it, mom Jenna agreed that she too loved Story Elias as a name. And they lived happily ever after.

According to Sunday's grandfather, Nicole Kidman's dad, the name Sunday was inspired by the famous Australian art collector and patron Sunday Reed.

This is one of those "they just liked the name" choices. Whatever suits you, Sam Worthington and Lara Bingle!

Raddix Madden

Raddix Madden

Everything about this situation is strange--not just the name. First of all, did you even know that Cameron Diaz was married to the guy from Good Charlotte? Well strap in, because they had a daughter and named her Raddix--which people speculate is a play off the word "rad." And to top it all off, there aren't actually any pictures of Raddix, since her parents decided not to share them with the public. That's obviously a smart move on their part, but it's terrible for us busybodies out there.

Gravity Blue Smith

Gravity Blue Smith

Former Miss Teen USA, Stormi Bree, and model Lucky Blue Smith clearly had creative parents themselves, so it should be no surprise when they welcomed their daughter Gravity into the world. Thankfully for the rest of us, little-g gravity has been around for a long time.

Kal-El Cage

Kal-El Cage

We want to like Nicolas Cage, but he makes it difficult sometimes. Case in point--he named his son "Kal-El" after the DC Comics character Superboy. It's bad enough that we have a veritable army of Bellas and Edwards that will soon be adults--but at least those are names we've actually seen on human beings before.

Apollo Bowie Flynn

Apollo Bowie Flynn

In 2014 when Gavin Rosdale and Gwen Stefani welcomed their son, Apollo Bowie Flynn, the world had a collective eyeroll at the kid's middle name. But there's more to the story than that! Bowie isn't a reference to English musician David Bowie, but rather, Bowie and Flynn are Rosdale's and Stefani's mothers' maiden names.

Bear Blu Jarecki

Bear Blu Jarecki

If you don't like that Alicia Silverstone named her son Bear Blu, don't blame her--blame her former mother-in-law. According to the Clueless actress, she had narrowed her choice down to a few picks when it was suggested she combine two of her favorites.

Kulture Kiari Cephus

Kulture Kiari Cephus

2018 was a whirlwind year for rapper Cardi B. Only days after announcing her split from Offset, she revealed that she had given birth to a daughter, Kulture Kiari. The child's middle name makes sense because her father's legal name is Kiari. Kulture with a k, on the other hand, is a bit harder of a sell.

Sparrow James Midnight

Sparrow James Midnight

Giving your child a normal name sandwiched between two strange ones is either genius or a cop-out. At least Sparrow has a more normal fallback name when the cruel years of middle school roll around. But that being said, go big or go home, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden--give him three unusual names or none at all!

Moroccan Scott Cannon

Moroccan Scott Cannon

Of all the names on this list, Moroccan (son of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon) is definitely not the strangest one. What is strange is the origin story behind the name. Apparently, this kid is now stuck with this specific name because there was moroccan decor in the room where his dad proposed to his mom. What a powerful and meaningful origin story.

Reign Aston Disick

Reign Aston Disick

Reign Aston Disick was born into the Kardashians, so she has bigger problems on her plate than an unusual name. But that being said, Reign is definitely not a name that self-aware rich people give their children. I'd say my outrage over this name is 50% its strangeness and 50% the fact that I'm jealous this baby is already wealthier than I will ever be.

Exton Elias Downey

Exton Elias Downey

Oh, to be the child of Robert Downy Jr. And oh, to be rich enough that the name "Exton" sounds right when people call you that. Unfortunately for us, that role has already been filled by Robert Downy Jr.'s son, Exton Elias Downey.

Bingham Hawn Bellamy

Bingham Hawn Bellamy

Bingham Hawn Bellamy is the son of actress Kate Hudson and Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy. While giving the kid the last name Hudson would have upped his fame factor, sharing a name with a music icon gives him more street cred--which he'll definitely need with a first and middle name like Bingham Hawn.

Rumer Willis

Rumer Willis

Rumer Willis (daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore) has been around long enough to go from the child of celebrities to a celebrity in her own right. And props to her parents for the name. It's unusual enough to stand out but not so unusual that people will spend your entire life butchering it.

Fuchsia Sumner

Fuchsia Sumner

When your dad is Sting, it doesn't matter what you're called--you're set for life. But Fuchsia Sumner got doubly lucky with a cool dad and a cool name. She's got one of those "why didn't I think of that" kind of names--a word we're all familiar with but haven't ever really considered as a name. But it works!

Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva Muffin Zappa

Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva Muffin Zappa

After the birth of Frank Zappa's children--Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva Muffin--why did celebrities even make an attempt with unusual names anymore? He won this crazy competition no matter what string of bizarre characters a billionaire mad scientist and an overrated musician throw into their baby names. And would you really expect anything less from Frank Zappa?
