The Miss America pageant is well underway, and the winner will be announced on Sunday, September 13th on ABC, but there’s one category the competition has forgotten about: the Social Media category. Despite this oversight, the contestants’ social media are an important aspect of the whole shebang. Each contestant has her own account through the Miss America Organization, but they can also have another account for their titles as well as a personal account. After combing through pages and pages of the many accounts, I’ve finally gotten the results for the eight awards in the social media category.
Best Style
Miss Minnesota, Rachel Latuff, has several interesting angles on her Instagram account, like clips of her ribbon dancing, but what stands out the most is her sense of style. Her outfits are full of color, flattering silhouettes, and tons of fun accessories. Can we shop her closet? There’s some wardrobe envy over here.
Miss Personality
Miss New York Jamie Lynn Macchia is clearly beautiful, but her Instagram makes it clear she’s also full of energy and spunk. Flipping through her images reveals oodles of excited smiles and genuine happiness, plus a few silly shots, and that’s why she won the Miss Personality award in a landslide.
Most Glamorous Instagram Account
It doesn’t take long for you to look through Miss Ohio’s account to realize she is quite the glamour girl. She’s clearly a big fan of blonde hair, red lips, and classic little black dresses. But even her laid back outfits have a touch of glamour that I’m willing to bet is more about the woman wearing the clothes than the clothes themselves.
The Most Honest
Miss Wisconsin easily draws the eye, and not just because she’s a beauty queen with a pixie cut. Yes, she’s beautiful, and her hair stands out, but she’s also a freaking doll, plain and simple. She has no trouble posting images of herself making a silly face, with a powdered sugar-covered smile, or rocking a Goofy hat. Oh, and she posts some honest, raw captions with her images. For instance, this shot showcasing her tattoo, which is in honor of her late brother and the reason for her platform.
Best Smile
Of course all of the contestants have a beautiful smile, but Miss Oklahoma’s is kind of infectious. She has a classic smile, and it even looks perfect when her mouth is open (something I’ve been trying to master for years).
Best Inspirational Account
Miss Massachusetts Meagan Fuller posts her fair share of pageant instas, but if you go back a little bit, you’ll find her many inspirational images. Fuller likes to share quotes and inspiration regarding gender equality, self-esteem, and encouraging underprivileged youth (just to name a few). Bonus: most of her inspirational posts aren’t images of herself, but of others instead. Now that’s beautiful.
Most Flawless
Two things. One: Daja Dial (Miss South Carolina) is completely and utterly perfect in every way. Just glancing at her account shows you how beautiful and fashionable she is. Not to mention it’s clear everyone loves her - look at all those image comments. Two: I really want to be her friend.
Best Overall Account
Mary Katherine Flechtel, aka Miss Florida, has been awarded the most esteemed social media award in this little competition. She not only maintains her official Miss Florida account, but also her own personal account, and they’re both amazing. Both accounts feature snapshots of her Miss Florida duties, but the images never feel redundant. She mixes it up with images from the competition, of friends and family, and of scenery and coffee. In addition, she’s mastered the art of the perfect filter and switches them up. Her accounts are bright and joyful, easily winning best overall account.
