What Modern Celebrities Would've Looked Like in the 1800s

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is a Canadian singer and one of the most influential artists of the 21st century. But what if he wasn’t alive in the 21st century, but rather in the 19th century? This image gives us somewhat of an idea. It also makes you wonder just what he would be doing with his life at the time, since pop stars weren’t a thing back then.

Moreover, the Biebs garnered much of his fame from YouTube which definitely wasn’t a thing in the 18th century. But maybe he could have been some kind of stage performer. Seeing as he’s from London, Ontario, he probably would have been living in a village in or around there.

Beyonce

Beyonce

Beyonce is leaving a pretty great legacy behind in both the 20th century and 21st century, rising to fame because of her hit musical group Destiny's Child as well as her extremely successful solo career. She's one of the world's best-selling recording artists, having sold over 200 million records thus far.

But what would the hit singer look like if she were alive in the 19th century? Beyonce probably wouldn't have had many opportunities to be as rich and famous as she is now, but she certainly still would have looked like a Queen. It's really hard to imagine Beyonce with all the grace and glam.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron, the South African-American actress rose to fame in the late 1990s in films like The Cider House Rules and The Devil's Advocate. Later her career seems to have evolved into action films and science fiction films like Mad Max: Fury Road, Prometheus, and The Fate of the Furious.

If Charlize Theron were alive in the 1800s, it would be a whole different story. Movies weren't really becoming thing until very late in the century and so she probably wouldn't have been a big movie star, to be sure. She still would have been beautiful, of course, provided her genetics were the same, but at best, she'd be doing just live acting performances.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks, the two-time Academy Award winner, has made a career out of being the "every man." He's the guy on screen that maybe doesn't do a unique voice and outrageous personality every chance he gets, but he's enormously relatable and a great actor nonetheless. He's been working in acting since the 1980s but what would be doing 200 years ago?

If Tom Hanks were alive in the 1800s, it's hard to say whether he would be acting on stage. Growing up, he was incredibly shy, according to a Rolling Stone magazine interview. he later got into acting when he studied theater at  Chabot College, but in the 19th century, there was no Chabot.

(Image via Midjourney)

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez

Like Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez is certainly another living legend. She began acting in the early '90s and later began a successful singing career. This triple-threat talent can act, sing and dance - and all that has made her one of the most powerful entertainers of the modern age.

Would all of the talent she has have been discovered in the 1800s? It's hard to say, but she probably wouldn't have the money nor the resources to get insurance for her own butt - but that being said, while her career might have looked a bit different, she would still be a beauty through and through.

(Image via Midjourney)

Emma Watson

Emma Watson

Emma Watson is, of course, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise. She has continued to have a successful career after those films, but it was really those films she did as a child that helped her rise to fame. Considering there was no Harry Potter in the 1800s, her life would probably have been a lot different.

Whether it's the 21st century or the 19th century, you can be rest assured that the Emma Watson we know and love would be just as classy no matter which time period she was from. Growing up in Paris with English Lawyers as parents, she probably would have been wealthy and educated.

(Image via Midjourney)

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian

Seeing as being rich is Kim Kardashian's main claim to fame, she might have been quite popular at parties, but without a reality television series, she probably wouldn't have been well-recognized around the world. She'd still be beautiful but definitely in a normal way and less in a way involving plastic surgery.

Really the 21st century has been Kim Kardashian's time to shine so she should probably stick to that. She's made a career out of documenting her life of wealth on television and we've enjoyed every minute of it but without a Tv and too much time on our hands, we wouldn't be as likely to care 200 years ago.

(Image via Midjourney)

Oprah

Oprah

Having been dubbed the Queen of All Media, Oprah's success would not be the same as 200 years ago for more reasons than one, but here in the 21st century, Oprah's iconic status and enormous fortune make her a person to be revered and celebrated. Oprah is a woman who has a lot but is also known giving something back too.

Having grown up in Mississippi, she was the daughter of a housemaid and a coal miner, so her opportunities in the 1800s would have been a lot more limited. She grew up in poverty and her first job was at a grocery store. But her oratory gifts were eventually discovered and she would become a TV personality for a whole generation.

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie is an Australian actress and producer known for her roles in The Wolf of Wall Street as well as The Suicide Squad. She's been nominated for an Academy Award twice, and in 2019, Forbes named her as one of the world's highest-paid actresses. Surely, nothing can stop Robbie - at least this century.

Margot Robbie's beauty might certainly remain, provided the genetics were the same, but her style would have been a lot different. And it's safe to say, she wouldn't be wearing any Harley Quinn attire for more reasons than one. So boy are we glad she's alive now and not the 19th century.

(Image via Midjourney)

Megan Fox

Megan Fox

Megan Fox has had a fairly lucrative career as an actress and a lot of that has to do with her status as a hollywood bombshell as strange as that is for someone's big break was Transformers - a movie about what were toys for kids. That being said, her life in the 1800s would not have been the same.

Megan Fox's looks are definitely something that would be more appreciated by modern audiences than those back in the 1800s. Her look would have been drastically different and she probably wouldn't have gotten away with anything rebellious looking without getting shunned by the community.

(Image via Midjourney)

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts is an award-winning actress with an America's sweetheart personality that really gave her a thriving career. Many of her movies have earned over $100 million at the box office, which has made her a bankable movie star for Hollywood. Since the film Pretty Woman, she's been a leading lady in Hollywood.

Julia Roberts's style of acting might not have translated well enough for the stage - as much as it works for her movies, so it's hard to say whether acting would have been her thing 200 years ago. As it stands in the 20th and 21st century, stage acting hasn't really been her thing.

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is not only an actor but a musician. He has accumulated a large number of awards, including a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award. The star made his debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street. He's Tim Burton's favorite male lead and has played the part of the eccentric character in countless movies. Many know him as Captain Jack Sparrow!

As a kid, Johnny was highly interested in music. He was given a guitar at age 12 and played in various bands. While he might have gone on to become a stage actor if he were born in the 1800s, we think he's more likely to have entered the music scene. Who knows, he could have been the inventor of rock and roll!

(Image via Midjourney)

Britney Spears

Britney Spears

Britney Spears will forever be the "Princess of Pop". She has some of the best-selling albums of all time with hits like ...Baby One More Time and Oops!...I Did It Again. She was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world in 2021. She's been a big topic of debate due to her conservatorship and the #FreeBritney movement.

While she certainly wouldn't be on stage singing, "I'm addicted to you, don't you know that you're toxic?" and dancing to her usual choreography, there's no doubt she would still be singing in the 1800s. They may have been hymns, but she would sing them with the voice of an angel.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga took the world by storm not just because of her multiple chart-topping songs but also because of her outrageous style. She's sported outfits made from plastic bubbles, Kermit the Frog dolls, and raw meat! "Mother Monster" has released hits like Bad Romance, Shallow, Rain On Me, and so many more—and she's not slowing down any time soon.

There's no doubt that even if she were born in the 1800s, she would still be an eccentric persona. While she wouldn't have had access to the same amount of fame that today's technology has afforded her, she would be a performer. She took piano lessons as a young girl, so she probably would have traveled the U.S., singing and playing.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock

As the highest-paid actress in 2010 and 2014, it's safe to say Sandra Bullock is a highly successful actress. In 2010 she was one of Time's 100 most influential people and the Most Beautiful Woman by People in 2015. Dubbed "America's sweetheart", she's starred in films like While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality, The Proposal, and Gravity.

Sandra's mother, Helga Mathilde, was an opera singer and voice teacher in Germany. In fact, Sandra was raised in Germany for 12 years! If she was born in the 1800s, there's a good chance she would be following in her mother's footsteps and singing opera in Germany. However, there was also mass immigration to the U.S. at that time, so the family could have ended up in the states.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and for a brief time Snoop Lion...this famous rapper has several accolades, including an American Music award, Primetime Emmy, and 17 nominations at the Grammy Awards. With hits like "Gin and Juice" and "Drop It Like It's Hot", Snoop has made his mark in pop culture.

Of course, in the 1800s, he would not have had the same opportunities as today. There's still no doubt that he would be a talented artist. He also has an IQ of 147, so who knows what else he might have decided to do! Besides acting, if he set his mind to it, he would have been successful—fo shizzle.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is a global sensation, having sold over 200 million records worldwide. She's one of the best-selling musicians of all time, winning 11 Grammys, three Album of the Year, 34 American Music Awards, and an Emmy, among others. With narrative lyrics and constant reinventions of herself, her discography spans multiple genres and continues to go full steam ahead!

With a Scottish and German heritage, her grandmother was an opera singer. Having gained an interest in musical theater at age nine, T Swift might have become an opera singer herself in the 1800s. Throwing it back to her song "Love Story", it's not too hard to imagine! She would have had adoring fans just like she does today.

(Image via Midjourney)

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has been the recipient of many major awards and has been named Hollywood's highest-paid actress multiple times. Her performance in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider established her as a leading actress. She continued her success with films like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Wanted, Salt, and Maleficent. She's also been cited as the world's most beautiful woman by multiple media outlets.

Angelina obviously wouldn't be starring in movies in the 1800s, but would still be an absolute beauty. She became interested in acting from watching films with her mother, so it's hard to tell whether she would have tried out stage acting. She has played a huge role in humanitarian work with refugees, so there's no doubt she would have been a helping hand to her community or traveling to those in need

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey is a comedian known for his high energy and slapstick sense of humor. He became a star through films such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. Since then, he has starred in numerous successful roles, even trying out different genres. Though he's been successful in dramatic roles, comedy is his forte.

Stand-up comedy got its start in the 1840s, and we know Jim Carrey would have been one of the front-runners. An eccentric guy like Jim is hard to imagine in a mundane, non-performative career. Besides being able to deliver a hilarious monologue, his physical comedy stunts would have brought in the laughs just as well.

(Image via Midjourney)

Kanye West

Kanye West

Kanye West...has a lot going on right now. He's a rapper, record producer, and fashion designer, largely regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop artists and one of the greatest musicians of his generation. With hits like "Runaway", "Jesus Walks", and "Gold Digger", you'd think the musical success was enough. However, his fashion line has reached great popularity as well. He's also well known for being controversial.

We're not sure how his controversial statements would have gone over in the 1800s...we just know they wouldn't have garnered worldwide attention because of the lack of media coverage and technology. Kanye demonstrated an affinity for the arts at an early age, writing poetry at five years old. We might have been reading about him in history books along with Emily Dickinson, Ralph Emerson, Walt Whitman, and Edgar Allan Poe!

(Image via Midjourney)

Will Smith

Will Smith

Will Smith, AKA The Fresh Prince, is an actor and a rapper. He's extremely successful, receiving numerous awards. His films have grossed over $9.3 billion globally—that's a LOT of moolah! While somewhat successful as a rapper, his acting career was where he reached new heights. Films like Bad Boys, Men in Black, I, Robot, and Suicide Squad have put him at the top of his game

While he loves to be the leading man in futuristic, action-packed films, that would not be possible if he were back in the 1800s. At the age of 12, he had a notebook of rap lyrics he had written. If anything, Will could have been something of a poet. Maybe he and Snoop Dogg would have done a collaboration—is that a thing for poets?

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill is a well-known British actor, starring in films such as The Count of Monte Cristo, Man of Steel, and Justice League. He's also had great success in Netflix show roles such as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher and Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes. He was named "World's Sexiest Man" by Glamour in 2013 and third on Empire's list of "The 100 Sexiest Movie Stars 2013". Henry continues to be cast in high-end films.

It's hard to tell which direction Henry Cavill would have taken in the 1800s. Between being born to a bank secretary and a stockbroker and his devastatingly good looks, he would have surely been able to rise to the top of the social rankings in England. Which is a good thing because life for the average person in the 1800s was hard!

(Image via Midjourney)

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is an actor and former wrestler. Known as one of the best wrestlers of all time, he's become even more successful, financially, in his acting career. His films have made over $10.5 billion worldwide, making him one of the world's highest-grossing and highest-paid actors.

Prior to his acting career, Dwayne was an athlete. Between football and wrestling, there's no doubt Dwayne would have been a sensation in the 1800s. Football was just entering the scene in the 1800s—Dwayne certainly would have been a first pick! Wrestling was popular as a frontier sport, and people would probably travel far and wide to watch "The Rock" do his thing.

(Image via Midjourney)

Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart is a comedian and actor who continues to land several successful roles. Launching his comedic reputation with his first stand-up album, I'm a Grown Little Man, he's released four more since then. Though he may be somewhat short in stature, there's nothing small about his success in Hollywood. Films like Ride Along, Central Intelligence, and Jumanji have solidified his hilarious capabilities.

Kevin found work early on as a shoe salesman. Since stand-up comedy was just becoming a thing in the 1800s, it might have been something he did on the side, with a shoe salesman being his main job. Without a doubt, his humorous personality would have shone through in both of his jobs!

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr., has had his ups and downs in his career. He made his acting debut at the age of five and continued to be successful until being fired for drug charges in 2000 and 2001. After becoming sober, he came back stronger than ever. His biggest role as Tony Stark in Iron Man earned him global recognition. He's also starred in Sherlock Holmes, Tropic Thunder, and Zodiac

With his father also being an actor, it's not too far-fetched to imagine RDJ as a stage actor. With his charisma and charm, we're sure he would have acted in melodramas, light comedies, and maybe even some Shakespeare. As such a talented actor, it would be no surprise if he were one of the top performers of the 1800s!

(Image via Midjourney)

Chris Evans

Chris Evans

Chris Evans is an accomplished actor. He first gained real attention after playing the Human Torch in Fantastic Four. It wouldn't be the last time he portrayed an action hero—he went on to star in TMNT, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Snowpiercer. His most notable role that gave him global attention was as Captain America. He's now one of the world's highest-paid actors.

He enjoyed musical theater as a child, even attending acting camp. Like RDJ, he probably would have ended up being a stage actor in the 1800s. We could see him being typecast as a leading, heroic character, much like he is today. He's also a philanthropist, so if he ever made it big in the 1800s, we know he would be generous to his community.

He's had a long career and collected many accolades, including an Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Gold Globe Award. Besides being in the film industry, he's also an accomplished theatrical performer. He's won three Obie Awards, one of the most prestigious honors for recognizing excellence in theatre. Morgan would have been the best of the best in theatre in the 1800s, no question. Besides performing, he probably would have also narrated a ridiculous amount of plays!

Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner

The man, the myth, the legend! Kevin Costner was born in January 1955 in Lynwood, California. "Dances with Wolves," "The Bodyguard," and "Field of Dreams" have made him a household name. If we're honest, his performance as the lead actor in "Yellowstone," the TV drama that makes you crave for a ranch life in Montana, is his greatest achievement

Yellowstone has everything a western TV show needs: ruggedly handsome Kevin Costner, emotional stakes, breathtaking settings, and action. Simply, everyone loves Kevin Costner on a horse. For Western drama fans, "Yellowstone" is essential. Kevin Costner is great as John Dutton, the grizzled rancher who will do anything to safeguard his land. He's the perfect mix of roughness and humanity.

Cher

Cher

Cher is an American singer, actress, and entertainer. "Believe," "If I Could Turn Back Time," and "Strong Enough" are among her successes. She featured in many other movies and TV shows along with "Moonstruck" and "Mamma Mia!" Cher would be queen of the stage in the 1800s. Her costly clothes and dominating personality would have drawn notice everywhere she went.

Her lovely voice and captivating stage presence would make her a potential dramatic vocalist. Cher's independence and tenacity would mold her into a pioneer even when women had fewer chances than men. Her audacious disregard of standards would have captivated any audience. Cher's impact would have lasted a century as an artist, inventor, and cultural icon.

"Jolene," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You" among her best-known tunes. Have you lived if you haven't sung "Jolene" out loud?

Her Imagination Library has provided free books to thousands of children worldwide. Her unique personality is renowned. A Dolly Parton concert in the 1800s Wild West would raise a stir. She might wear a floppy hat and rhinestone corset. She would sing of world wonders and lonely travel. She would definitely make moonshine. She faced the world with self-confidence and assurance, especially when going gets tough.

Elvis Presley's hypnotic music and style would have changed with the times. Regardless of the circumstances, Presley's intelligence, charisma, and showmanship would have secured his triumph. Perhaps she advocated for women's right to vote in 1800s. Barr's snarky, witty delivery would have been a hit in the vaudeville era. As a writer for magazines or novels, she might have found answers to pressing social problems. Barr would be the kind of person who could have made a difference even in repressive times thanks to her courage, wit, and independence.
