Food for Fido: A Picky Pet's 'Gold' Mine

You know how important healthy eating is. Wholesome foods equal a healthy body and mind. But do you know that it’s equally important for the food you feed your pets to meet those standards?

No matter if you have a small cat or a dog as big as a horse, the food you feed your fur-babies plays a key role in their health. Just like us humans, bad food can make them sick. They suffer from food allergies and sensitivities. Years of poor diet can cause health problems as they reach old age.

Picky Pups, Rejoice!

If you have a picky eater, then finding a healthy food your dog will actually consume can be hard. It’s like pet food roulette. Trust me; I know first hand how difficult it is. My dog won’t touch certain foods, like chicken. However, my stubborn pooch went to town on Solid Gold's new Green Cow Beef Tripe Cups. He was so excited just by the smell that he tried to get on the kitchen counter while I was opening the package.

Aside from my dog’s obvious delight in the flavor of the Green Cow Beef Tripe cups, I like buying it for him because it only contains ingredients that I know are good for him. Many dog breeds have food allergies to gluten and grain. These cups are free of both of those ingredients. That means the food contains less filler (unlike bargain-brand pet foods), and I know my dog won’t end up scratching incessantly from his food allergy.

So What's In It?

This is a soft food, so it does contain a few different ingredients from dry foods in order to maintain the moist consistency. The main ingredient however is Green Beef Tripe, and that means that it’s a high-quality food full of healthy protein. The ingredients list is as follows:

Green Beef Tripe, Beef Broth, Potatoes, Canola Oil, Tricalcium Phosphate, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Cassia Gum, Xanthan Gum, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Vitamin E Supplemen, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Thiamine Mononitrate, Cobalt Proteinate, Niacin Supplement, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, and Folic Acid

For a quick break down:

  • 9.5% of the food is crude protein
  • 6% is crude fat
  • 2% is crude fiber
  • the remaining 78% is moisture

That’s a good ratio, especially considering that cats and dogs need high-protein diets in order to maintain healthy function. You can purchase a 12-count case of the 3.5-oz Green Beef Tripe Cups for $21.48 on Amazon. They can also be purchased through Petco. If you’re looking for a hard food instead, check out the rest of Solid Gold's pet food line. There are several different flavor options for every age, size, and type of cat or dog.
