Not Replacing the Toilet Paper
This is one household habit that’s even more despicable than most. Reaching for an empty roll when you need toilet paper the most is one of the worst feelings in the world.
Replacing an empty toilet paper roll takes all of 30 seconds. It might not save a life, but it will make whoever uses the bathroom after you a lot happier.
Not Knocking Before You Enter a Room
Have you ever been doing something sensitive or embarrassing in your bedroom? If so, then I better not see you entering a room without knocking!
Barging in unannounced is terrible for everyone involved. The person whose privacy your invading is going to be angry, and you just might end up seeing something you don’t want to see.
Almost Empty Containers in the Fridge
I promise that no one wants that teaspoon of milk that you left at the bottom of the carton. You’d be doing everyone a favor by just tossing it into the trash.
Not only do almost-empty containers take up unnecessary space, they’re also deceptive. There’s nothing worse than going for the cereal only to find a solitary cheerio at the bottom of an empty box.
Eating Food That Isn't Yours
Eating food that isn’t yours is never a good thing. But there are degrees of badness to this annoying habit.
If you eat something unmarked, at least you have plausible deniability. But if you’re grabbing something that a roommate has specifically marked as theirs, you’re a true monster.
Leaving Dirty Dishes in the Sink
Listen, nobody wants to do the dishes, but that’s just something we’ve got to get over. They need to get done.
Letting them pile up in the sink might seem like an ingenious solution, but whoever has to ultimately clean them is not going to be happy with you. Save yourself the heartache and clean them as they get dirty.
Dirty Shoes on a Clean Floor
Most people don’t expect their house to stay immaculate 24/7. But that doesn’t mean that getting things clean doesn’t feel great.
What doesn’t feel great is when someone traipses over your newly mopped floor, ruining all of your hard work. At least give them time to dry before you get them dirty again.
Not Emptying the Dishwasher
Leaving clean dishes in the dishwasher is not as bad as leaving dirty dishes in the sink, but it’s still annoying. What’s the point of cabinets if you’re not going to use them?
Everyone in the house will be happier if you just take the mere five minutes it takes to put your dishes away. Plus, you need an empty dishwasher as a place to store your dirty dishes.
Hogging the Bathroom
Everyone wants to look their best before leaving the house, but it’s rude to spend hours holed up in the bathroom. It’s kind of an important room in the house, if you haven’t noticed.
If someone is hogging the bathroom, it has the potential to throw your schedule out of whack. And then there’s always the awkward conversation through the door when you’ve gotta go...
Lights on in an Empty Room
Are you made of money? Because I’m sure not! Turn off those lights when you leave a room.
Leaving the lights on is not the most heartless thing you can do to your family or roommates, but it’s definitely annoying--especially if everyone is splitting the energy bill but you’re the only one running it up.
Not Taking Out the Trash
As far as I see it, you have two options. You can either living in a house full of garbage, or you can do the not-at-all difficult work of taking out the trash.
This should be a no-brainer, but some people seem so resistant to lifting even one finger to help out. Hopefully that’s not you!
Hair in the Shower Drain
Is there anything more terrifying than pulling up a huge glob of hair out of the shower drain? You may as well be pulling a cobra out of there.
If everyone would just give the drain a quick clean after getting out of the shower, all this heartache could be avoided. You’d still have to pull hair out of the drain, but at least you’d know it was yours.
Leaving the Toilet Seat Up
Women always seemed to be worried about falling into the toilet because their male loved ones won’t put the seat down. How often that actually happens is up for debate, but this is still an annoying habit.
Keeping the seat down is about more than just “safety” though. Who wants an unobstructed view of what’s going on in the toilet anyways? Keep the seat down and embrace the mystery.
Borrowing Things Without Asking
If something of yours is missing and you’ve got roommates, there’s a good chance that one of them “borrowed” it from you. This is also a widespread problem among siblings living together, too.
We’re not sure what’s so hard about keeping your hands off things that aren’t yours, but this is an infuriating problem. Even if you know the person you’re borrowing from will be okay with it, better to ask and get a confirmed yes.
Not Paying the Bills on Time
If you’ve ever had the power cut because someone “forgot” to pay the electric bill, then you know just how annoying this is. Whether it’s poor money management or just a terrible case of procrastination, putting off bills is a great way to annoy your roommates and put yourself in financial trouble.
No one has their life together 100%--but paying bills on time is absolutely a life skill you should learn quickly and well.
Thermostat Fights
In a perfect world, everyone is on the same page about what the temperature should be inside. Unfortunately, we rarely live in a perfect world.
Whether you’re freezing cold or burning up, there’s always one roommate or family member who’s the exact opposite. There’s no way thermostat fights are going away any time soon, so may the best man win!
