Kids enjoying a hocus pocus halloween party

Cast a Spell with a Hocus Pocus Halloween Party

Halloween is just around the corner and what better party theme is there than Hocus Pocus?  With just a few simple decorations and hair-raising snacks, you’ll have a perfectly put-together party in no time.

Decorations

  • Black Candles
You can find these at an arts and crafts store or simply paint a regular candle black.
  • Green Witches Hats
These can be easily made out of construction paper. Make a cone out of green paper, cut a circle out of black paper and glue them together.  If you wish, you can tie sparkly green or purple ribbon around the base.
  • Miniature Broomsticks
We all know the sisters in Hocus Pocus rode vacuum cleaners, but broomsticks are just so much easier to make (and still spooky)! All you need is some hot glue, small twigs, and raffia (about 5-6 strands per broom). Glue the raffia to one end of the twig and wrap one wider strand around it to hold the raffia in place.
  • Decorative Chalkboard
Write “I put a spell on you!” in creepy letters and fill the rest of the space with spiderwebs and broomsticks.
  • Artificial Spiderwebs and Plastic Spiders
There's nothing more fun that scaring your friends by hanging fake spiderwebs around the house. If you want the plastic spiders to remain on the webs the whole time (instead of falling on your guest’s heads), you can use a drop of hot glue to secure them.
  • Miniature Cauldrons
These are available at Halloween-themed stores, and even some grocery stores at this time of year. Fill with candy corn and assorted hard candies.
  • Purple, Green, and Black Streamers
Hang these around the house to add some pops of color.

Recipes

Hocus Pocus Punch

  • 6 cups lemonade
  • 2 cups lemon-lime soda
  • Green, red, and blue food coloring
  • Gummy worms

Mix lemonade and soda together in a large punch bowl.  Add drops of food coloring until you are satisfied with the color.  Serve in green-tinted glasses and garnish with gummy worms.

Dead Man’s Toes (Bacon-Wrapped Sausages)

  • 1 lb sliced bacon
  • 1 package cocktail links
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Cut bacon strips into thirds and wrap the strips around sausage links.  Secure each with a toothpick, and place on a foil-lined baking sheet.  Sprinkle with brown sugar.  Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until bacon is crisp, turning once.

Witches Hat Cookies

  • 1 package milk chocolate kisses
  • 1 package fudge-striped shortbread cookies
  • Orange frosting

Turn cookies upside down so the chocolate part is face up.  Attach a kiss to each cookie with frosting.  Add a small frosting bow to each cookie.
