Your bed is where you rest and relax, and therefore should be the most comfortable place in your home. If your bed is uncomfortable and preventing you from receiving a good night’s sleep, then it's probably time to do some shopping.
Choosing Mattresses and Bed Frames
Mattresses are a huge investment. It is important to choose the best mattress for your needs since you’ll ideally use it for eight hours every day. The best thing to while shopping for a new mattress is to test out several different kinds. This doesn't mean sitting on it for 5 seconds. You should actually lie down on the bed for 10-15 minutes. This will give you a more accurate feeling of the bed's comfort and if it's a good fit for you. The softness or firmness of a bed is usually a personal preference and one isn’t necessarily better than the other.
Make sure you also replace the box springs when you get a new mattress. Box springs can also wear out and cause an uncomfortable sleeping situation. Some mattress stores have pressure mapping to identify which mattresses keep the pressure off of your back. Some people prefer a memory foam mattress for their firmness and the fact that they contour to your body as you are sleeping. An adjustable bed is also a great option, but they feel different than traditional mattresses and are expensive. It is critical to test out adjustable beds to make sure it’s tan investment you won’t regret.
Choosing the Perfect Bedding
Your bedding should add to the look and feel of your bed. Choose fabrics and materials that feel good to the touch. Sheets with a higher thread count tend to be softer and silkier. When shopping for a bedspread or comforter think about choosing something that is both comfortable and decorative. Don’t select something that only looks nice when the bed is made up. You have to lay on whatever you choose so focus on comfort. If your area has significant weather changes each season, consider buying a comforter that will be comfortable each season. If the comforter you think is most comfortable isn’t the cutest, then you can buy a separate comforter for when you have guests or want your bedroom to look its best.
Choosing Mattress Toppers
A mattress topper does more than just protect your mattress. It also adds extra comfort to your bed. Some mattress toppers protect mattresses from dust, dander, and spills, some keep the bed at a comfortable sleeping temperature, some reduce movement when a sleeper tosses and turns, and some can even turn a so-so mattress into a fabulous place to sleep. A down-filled mattress pad, which is fluffy and comfortable, will also keep the temperature of your bed even while you sleep. If you're concerned about allergies, you can also opt for a down-alternative mattress pad.
A Memory Foam mattress pad will conform better to your body than down or down-alternative. These synthetic pads respond to body heat, getting softer in the spots you press the mattress most, and staying firm elsewhere, so they feel like they're supporting you where you need it. In the event that you opt for a cotton mattress pad, look for one with a higher fill count, which will feel softer.
