Forget waiting until spring to clean and organize your home! You can make the holiday season a bit less stressful with a few easy storage solutions for everything, from food to makeup. Organizing your home the right way the first time will make it easy for you and your family to keep it up for years to come. Storing your possessions does not have to cost very much money, and it will save you a lot of time down the road when you don’t have to constantly search for/clean up your belongings multiple times a day.
The Kitchen
Let’s start in the kitchen, which is probably one of the areas of your home that needs effective organization the most. You can save space and stay organized in both your fridge and pantry by purchasing airtight, stackable containers for food storage. Label each of your containers so you will be able to tell what type of food is in each after a quick glance. You can also utilize cheap magazine racks to store aluminum foil, plastic wrap, even pot lids!
The Closet
Closet organization is a must in any household. It keeps your closet neat and also saves time in the mornings when you know exactly where each of your clothing items are. If you do not have enough shelving space for boots, try hanging them on pants hangers. They’ll take up less room and will be easier to find. Two items that can be tricky to organize are scarves and jewelry, but now you can purchase multi-tiered hangers, so you can store all of them in one spot.
Bedrooms
In your bedroom, there is probably quite a bit of storage space that goes unused, such as under your bed. Underbed storage is perfect for extra sheets, pillows, and blankets, among many other things. The best storage items for this area are the long, slender tubs with wheels on the bottom. Then, after you pack them full of your chosen items, you can just roll the storage containers back under your bed when you’re done.
Bathrooms
Counter and drawer space in your bathroom is precious, so you should figure out some ways to maximize it. Think creatively and store your makeup and other items in unique places. You could hang a shelf above your bathroom door to store items that you don’t use on a regular basis, such as bulk soap bottles and cleaning supplies. Invest in a hanging makeup organizer that you can hook onto your towel rod; you’d be surprised at how much room this will save you.
The Living Room
Don’t forget about your living room. Since this is one of the most-used rooms in the house, you need to make everything easily accessible. If you want your DVDs and other multimedia to stay out of sight, purchase a fashionable ottoman that you can store items in. Or you could buy a DVD binder, which will create a lot of extra space since you won’t have to worry about the DVD cases.
Outdoor Storage
Finally, if you are lucky enough to have a storage shed, make sure you are using your space wisely. Store your items in stackable tubs in order to use the vertical space effectively. You can also store tubs on the ceiling if you drill some pieces of wood into the ceiling and allow the edges of the tubs to hang on them. Keep those hanging tubs fairly lightweight, though!
