Safely Cleaning Your Engagement Ring At Home

Engagement rings are special tokens. They represent a lifetime of love and should last that long. For years to come, your ring will be a symbol of the everlasting love you have for your partner. You want your engagement ring to shine and dazzle, but rings can be fragile and the last thing anyone wants to do is cause scratches or tarnishes. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to safely clean your engagement ring at home.

What you'll need:

  • baking soda
  • a new soft-bristle toothbrush
  • a glass of water
  • a bowl
  • a lint-free rag
  • dish washing detergent

Step One:

Put some baking soda into an empty bowl and add water until you create a paste. Be sure to stir the paste well, getting rid of any lumps from the baking soda.

Step Two:

Spread the paste over the ring's stone and setting. Be sure to get the paste in all of the corners and cracks of your ring to ensure a thorough clean. Do not be afraid to use all of the paste.

Step Three:

Next soak your ring in the small glass of water until it appears to be free of the paste. Remove your ring from the water. You should already be able to see a significant difference.

Step Four:

Now, coat the ring with any brand of dish detergent and use the soft bristle toothbrush to rub any left over dirt or grime off the ring. Again, be thorough in scrubbing the ring. The soft bristles will not scratch the metal.

Step Five:

Rinse the ring in warm water until it is completely free of soap suds. Use the lint-free towel to dry it off.

This simple cleaning method is completely safe for all metals and stones. The baking soda will polish your ring and the soap will ensure any leftover dirt is removed, thus creating a shine that will catch anyone's eye. This cleaning process will make your ring look brand new, even if you’ve worn it every day for the last decade.
