Space-Saving Tips and Tricks for Your Home Gym

When you think of a home gym, you probably picture a large, open space filled with multiple workout machines and probably a modern flat screen television in the corner. Yet not all home gyms have to consume that much space in your home. Even if you don’t have an entire room to spare or you’re on a budget, you can still create an efficient home gym where you are able to enjoyably stick to your New Year’s resolution of choosing a weight management plan for your life and staying healthy.

You’ve probably seen the infomercials on television about all-in-one gym equipment where you can complete your entire workout routine with only one machine.  These machines, such as the Bowflex, will cost more initially, but they can save you both time and space in the long run. This way, you won’t have to buy a treadmill, exercise bike, and bench press separately. You could place one of these machines in your office, garage, or even bedroom. These are especially great if you have a room designated as your gym, but it is not very large. Since there’s only one piece of equipment in there, you will have room for a nice television and possibly even a small refrigerator to keep your sports drinks chilled.

If buying an all-in-one machine is not an option, or you already have several other pieces of equipment, you can also save space by storing your workout machines in the garage or closet. Most treadmills fold up to a much smaller size for more efficient storage, as do several other machines. To save on space and money, you could temporarily place your exercise bikes or elliptical in the living room and complete your workout while you’re watching your favorite shows. Then, after you are finished, it is very easy to pack up your equipment and roll it back into your storage place of choice.

Newer workout programs, including Insanity and PiYo, will keep you fit and healthy, and the best part is that you don’t even have to purchase any special equipment! You can buy the DVDs online and have a great workout routine in your own living room. All you will need is a pair of good tennis shoes and an inexpensive yoga mat. You don’t need a spare room or storage space to keep all of your equipment, so this is a great, budget-friendly way to stick to your New Year’s resolution and exercise routines for weight loss.
