Five Signs That It’s Time To Go To Couple’s Therapy

Sometimes love isn’t enough to keep a relationship together, but when is it time to bring a therapist into the relationship? Here are a few signs that it might be time to make an appointment with a couple’s therapist.

Problems In The Bedroom

If your sex life goes through a drastic change, either a sudden drop or rise in sexual activity, it may be time to see a couple’s therapist. If you and your partner were having steady sex and it suddenly disappears, there may be past resentment building up, which leads to a lack of intimacy. On the other hand, if you and your partner were not having sex often and your partner suddenly wants to go at it all the time, there may be another source of desire that doesn’t include you.

Not Letting Go

If you and your partner argue over the same thing over and over (and over and over) it might be a sign that you need couple’s therapy. If there is a problem the two of you just can’t seem to resolve, you may need someone unbiased to come in and show you a different outsider’s perspective. Sometimes problems are easier to solve when you get the opinion of someone completely uninvolved.

Cheating

If one of you has had an affair and you have decided to work things out and stay together, couple’s therapy is a must. Once trust has been broken, it can be difficult, or almost impossible, to repair what was damaged. A therapist is professionally trained to help people repair relationships by opening dialogue between the two of you in a neutral setting. Your therapist will also be able to give you pointers on how to regain trust and will let you know if your behavior and opinions are valid.

When You Are Enemies

If you and your partner are constantly fighting and blaming one another for everything, you could use a therapist to mediate. When we blame one another constantly it’s usually because past resentments have built up for so long that we see one another as enemies. Having a therapist help you sort through your past problems and built up feelings of anger or resentment can mend the great divide of your relationship.

Money Trouble

Financial problems are a big deal for couples and sometimes things can get really heated. Going to a couple’s therapist is smart because 9 times out of 10, they’ve dealt with the problem you and your partner are currently facing. Financial issues that cannot be handled between the two of you can usually be unraveled with the help of a therapist.
