10 Fashion Decisions You'll Regret in 10 Years

We all love to look back on our lives to see how much we’ve changed. Facebook and other social media sites have made that extremely easy. Facebook sends you notifications that let you know you have something to “look back on,” and you can even just scroll down and stalk yourself. It seems all good, right? You can see how far you’ve come, but it can also be a little cringy.

We’ve all had that moment when we were scrolling down on our Facebook page to notice a picture where we wore something just horrible. Looking even further back may leave you appalled by the outfit choices you made a decade ago. How could you know any better?

Things aren’t any different now. You may find yourself scrolling through social media or looking at pictures from a decade wondering, “How could I have worn that?!” Thankfully, we’re here to help you out. Stylists and fashionistas may have declared these fashion trends the thing to wear, but they’re definitely trends that are going to fall out of style and cause some serious regret later. Here are 10 fashion decisions you should avoid if you don’t want to gasp at your own photos in 10 years.

Excessive Fringe

Excessive Fringe

Fringe is one of those things that is great in small doses but disastrous if you use too much. A faux suede fringe vest over a tank is cute, but if you add fringe boots and a fringe purse, you’re going to look like a straight-haired Chewbacca. Less is more, people!

Patchwork Jeans

Patchwork Jeans

Fashion bloggers are all about patchwork denim, and sure, it looks passable if you have the bod of Chiara Ferragni, but for the rest of us mere mortals? It makes you look homeless. Considering that those designer patchwork jeans probably cost upwards of $200, the end result is quite ironic.

Novelty Handbags

Novelty Handbags

Novelty handbags shaped like Hello Kitty’s face or featuring the McDonalds logos were clever a couple years ago, but they got old really fast. They aren’t fashionable in the least, so if you’re going to drop $1,000 on a handbag, you should probably stick to a style that isn’t going to make you look like a toddler.

Designer Tennis Shoes

Designer Tennis Shoes

Sure, no one can argue that $2,000 designer tennis shoes don’t look good, but do they really look that much better than a pair of $80 Nikes? The answer is no. Nor do those fancy shoes provide any better support for your feet, so you might as well skip the Yeezy’s and head on over to DSW.

Cropped Flares

Cropped Flares

The verdict is in for the cropped-flares trend: They should never, ever be worn by anyone ... not even supermodels. These jeans look like you shrunk them in the dryer over and over again until they were capri length, and as we all know, capri-length bottoms make everyone’s legs look short and squatty.

Flower Crowns

Flower Crowns

If you go to a music festival this summer, you are bound to see hundreds of festivalgoers wearing hippie-esque flower crowns. And even if you don’t go to a music festival, you’re still bound to see these crowns at Starbucks or the mall. They used to be cute when Lana Del Rey started wearing them, but now these crowns are overdone, cliche, and kind of silly.

Car Wash Pleated Skirts

Car Wash Pleated Skirts

Even the name of this skirt is a turn-off. Who wants to make it look like their legs are going through a car wash?! If you like the pleated look, stick to accordion or knife pleats, and stay far, far away from the car wash pleats because you will look back on them with the same level of disgust as you currently feel toward your 12-year-old self wearing gauchos.

Furry Footwear

Furry Footwear

Between furry nails and furry footwear, you might find yourself asking what this world is coming to! Faux fur can be chic if it’s in the form of a vest or a luxurious coat, but certainly not in the form of slip-ons. If you can accomplish the same effect by strapping stuffed animals to your feet, be wary.

Barely There Dresses

Barely There Dresses

Beyonce and Kim K made “barely there” dresses famous on the red carpet, and now you can find that same style in your local boutique in the form of cocktail dresses. You shouldn't buy them. There’s a reason only people like Beyonce and Kim K wear them; only a celeb can pull off this look.

Birkenstock Sandals

Birkenstock Sandals

Birkenstock clogs were all the rage about 10 years ago, and for some peculiar reason, they are are back in style in 2016. These shoes are just as ugly as they were then, and they will ruin an otherwise fashionable outfit. Stick with styles that don’t look like something your drunk uncle would wear to the family reunion.
