15 Normal People Share the Reason a Celeb Blocked Them

In recent years, it’s become a badge of honor to Tweet pictorial evidence when a celebrity blocks you. Sometimes it’s hard to determine why a celebrity blocked you, but if you’re a jerk, that’s a surefire reason. And most people are deliberately trying to get blocked, especially by the most volatile public figures. But put yourself in a celeb’s shoes: they’re a person as much as anyone else, yet have to put up with constant defamation.

However, the blocking phenomenon traverses into a more problematic territory once politicians take part. Because they're typically viewed as people who shouldn’t censor their audience because they’re public servants, when does control over who follows a political figure's social media account reach the point of violating the First Amendment?

This isn’t a political science blog, so we won’t break down the philosophy of that. But we will outline 15 of the most ridiculous reasons why normal people were blocked by celebrities. Have you ever been blocked by a big name? If so, your post might be funny enough to make a list like this one.

Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer

Unfortunately for self-acclaimed “enormous, obsessed fan” Liz Arcury, comedian Amy Schumer blocked her on Twitter when Arcury questioned Schumer’s support of Kurt Metzger despite sexual assault allegations brought against him.

“Why do you work with Kurt? He is so anti-women and anti-feminism. It’s really gross. I wish you would fire him. For all of us,” Arcury wrote. The next day, she tweeted confirmation that Schumer blocked her over the critical comments.

Jeffree Star

Jeffree Star

Reddit user ChronicApathetic didn’t exactly have strong words to say about makeup guru and former MySpace icon Jeffree Star, but they surely pointed out the flaws in another girl’s argument about racism.

“You can hate black people and still want their money,” he clarified to the girl that argued “since he makes makeup for darker skin tones… he can’t possibly be racist.” We’re not advocating for either side here, but Jeffree Star definitely didn’t appreciate ChronicApathetic’s input.

Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes

deannagyoung on Reddit shared a humorous account of her sister getting blocked by Amanda Bynes. Sharing “Today’s gunna suck but atleast i’m not amanda bynes” to Twitter apparently wasn’t the way to get into Bynes’s good graces.

Gilbert Gottfried

Gilbert Gottfried

Twitter user Mike Miller AKA daclown81 recounted his exceedingly odd experience getting blocked by American comedian Gilbert Gottfried.

Gottfried tweeted a joke about Charles Manson, saying, “Is it hot in here, or am I crazy.” We’re not quite sure why Gottfried targeted Miller’s account to block in particular, especially because Miller merely showcased their similar taste in Manson humor. That surely wasn’t the worst reply Gottfried got on that post!

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen

This one is hard to wrap our heads around. Jordan-Risa on Twitter shared in 2018 that Chrissy Teigen blocked her because she said “[Teigen] was wrong about FRIENDS not being funny.”

Does Teigen really hate Friends enough to block those who disagree with her? To be fair, we don’t have evidence on what Jordan-Risa actually said in her reply to Teigen’s controversial opinion on the sitcom, yet she admits that it’s her biggest regret. Lesson learned.

Cardi B

Cardi B

Twitter user @JorgeNSFL shared that they were blocked by Cardi B for questioning her man’s intentions on a Sunday night Chick-fil-a run.

“I told her to go follow him cause they were closed,” Jorge stated, and was subsequently blocked by the singer. Hey, it’s easy to forget that the fast-food chain closes on Sunday!

Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton

In other instances, social media users don’t even know what they said to get them blocked by a celeb. Take Jeremiah Baker, who claims Perez Hilton blocked him with no warning.

“I honestly don’t know what I did, but…,” Baker tweeted with a screenshot of the unexpected occurrence. While Baker isn’t sure what he did, we’re not sure if we should say “Congratulations” or “Sorry for your loss.”

Jhené Aiko

Jhené Aiko

In March 2018, Twitter’s @borrupted_ claimed that singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko blocked them for their comment criticizing Aiko’s music. “I said she made side chick music. i was blocked 10 min later.” Um, if someone was belittling your art, I think you wouldn’t be happy either!

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton

Maybe celebrities like Paris Hilton block users like @Niklebaby_ because they don’t even want to figure out what the tweet’s supposed to mean.

Nikle AKA kole said they “told [Hilton] her and her dogs look like they smell the same. i know I’m not wrong.” It’s no secret that Hilton’s rich as can be, so she probably has her pets groomed regularly. What kind of roast is this? Do they smell good or bad? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale

Other times, it all boils down to an unintentional mistake, as Darren (@dxvrc) explains after getting blocked by Ashley Tisdale.

“I tried to tell ashley tisdale that I ‘stan’ her but it auto corrected to stab…..” Ah, yeah. It makes sense she blocked you, Darren, but don’t feel too upset about it, because we know your intentions were true!

Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr

Twitter’s Derya clarified that during Roseanne Barr blocked them during her 2012 presidential campaign.

“I guess I offended her when I said you can’t grow macadamia nuts without a good environment.” Without context, this tweet seems entirely innocent. What really went down here?

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

It’s entirely possible for someone’s love to become suffocating, which Reddit user karmapilgrim0720 knows too well after spamming Taylor Swift with pictures on Twitter.

“I got blocked by Taylor Swift by tweeting her a picture of me 35 times.” Some commenters questioned why it took exactly 35 pics to get on Swift’s nerves and other’s used her Reputation lyrics as a quip, which somehow makes us feel better about the situation.

William Shatner

William Shatner

We all remember the time when social media was new, exciting, and totally confusing. @malkavlad360 on Reddit, with all of their Twitter innocence, recounted the tale of getting blocked on the site by Canadian actor William Shatner.

“William Shatner was live tweeting an episode of Supernatural and making bad dad jokes. I @ed him and said how happy it made me that [he] Tweeted like a teenage girl in an old mans body.” Immediately blocked!

Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil

Inyia’s story (our personal favorite) features the baffling result of consuming an excessive amount of Dr. Phil memes.

“Dr. Phil blocked me on Instagram too because I said I wanted to rip his mustache off and put it on my forehead.” Um, how many other celebs has Inyia targeted them with their wild fantasies?

Donald Trump

Donald Trump

Writer Laura Packard shared to Twitter that Donald Trump blocked her on the social media app in 2017, an already tumultuous year for the opinion contributor for U.S.News & World Report who developed Stage 4 cancer that year.

“I don't know which of my tweets got under his skin, but the last one I directed at him before being blocked was a response to his sad Emmy tweet. If in fact this was the tweet that got his attention – rather than my constant pleas to save my health insurance and thus my life – it speaks volumes about him as a leader and as a person”
