Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird

Megan Rapinoe is an American soccer player in the National Women's Soccer League. She's had a hugely successful career, having competed at the FIFA women's world cup multiple times. She has received multiple awards and garnered plenty of recognition as a player. And she has just as much to be proud of in her personal life.

Megan Rapinoe is married to famous WNBA superstar Sue Bird who plays for the Seattle Storm basketball team, who has competed at the Olympics four times. The two had been dating since 2016 and finally announced they were engaged in October 2020. It is not known whether they have yet tied the knot.

Serena Williams and Alexia Ohanian

Serena Williams is one of the most well-known and highly skilled tennis players around. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles in her career, which is the most of any player in the Open Era and the second-most of all time. Her husband is no athlete but is a well-known social media celebrity, co-founder of Reddit: Alexis Ohanian.

Alexis Ohanian is an entrepreneur who graduated from the University of Virginia. As an investor, he has been an active supporter of the National Women's Soccer League. In 2016, Ohanian and Williams had announced they were engaged. Not long after they had a daughter together and married just two months later.

Alex Morgan and Servando Corrasco

Alex Morgan is a professional soccer player within the Women's National Soccer League and the US national soccer team. She has co-captained the team along with Megan Rapinoe from 2018 to 2020. After graduating from Berkley, she became the youngest player to compete at the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2011, and in 2012 she competed at the London Olympics.

Morgan is married to Servando Corrasco, who she met at Berkley. Having been married since 2014, the couple had their first child in 2020. Soccer midfielder Corrasco had been born in America but spent most of his childhood in Tijuana, Mexico. A professional in his own career, this couple continues to support each other and their baby girl.

Shawn Johnson and Andrew East

Shawn Johnson and Andrew East

Shawn Johnson is a famous gymnast who won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics for the balance beam competition. She is also a world champion and has earned various other medals over the years. As of 2012, she has retired as a gymnast, having never fully recovered from an injury in her left knee. But while she enjoys retirement, her husband Andrew East is still very much active in his career.

She and her husband Andrew East had been engaged since 2015 until they got married in 2016. As a free agent in the NFL, he has played for multiple teams across the country, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Oakland Raiders. Most recently, he played for the Washington Redskins, or as they are now called, the Washington Football team.

Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra

Mia Hamm is one of the most famous women soccer players of all time. The now-retired player won two gold medals at the Olympics and was a champion at FIFA twice as well. Mia Hamm had first married her college sweetheart, Christiaan Corry, but divorced him six years later in 2001.

Nomar Garciaparra is her second husband, who is a Boston Red Sox shortstop, in 2003. In 2007, Hamm gave birth to two girls, and then a son in 2012. The now-retired player is one of just 13 to have scored two grand slams in a single game. Now he continues to make money as an investor.

Tara Lipinski and Todd Kapostasy

Tara Lipinski is a retired competitive figure skater who is now an active sports commentator. In 1998, she was an Olympic champion and up until 2019, she was the youngest figure skater to have won the US Nationals. During her professional career, she won every competition she entered, having performed in over 300 live shows.

She has also found much success in her love life, having been with the same man since 2015. She met Todd Kapostasy in 2015 and married him two years later. Figure skater Johnny Weir attended the wedding as a bridesman and Scott Hamilton was a guest. Best of luck to the couple, but we're guessing they won't need it.

Missy Franklin and Hayes Johnson

Missy Franklin and Hayes Johnson

Missy Franklin is without a doubt one of the best swimmers in the world. The five-time Olympic gold medalist who set a record for the 200-meter backstroke. After competing at the 2012 Olympics, she participated in numerous championships around the world and competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The now-retired swimmer has now settled down Hayes Johnson. The couple met at the University of Texas in 2018 and married in 2019. Hayes Johnson is also a former swimmer who competed at the Olympic trials. While he might not be able to compete with Missy, the couple is a perfect match.

Kristi Yamaguchi and Bret Hedican

Kristi Yamaguchi is another former figure skater, who was a two-time world champion and competed in the 1992 Olympics. That year she won as champion and in 2005, she was inducted in the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. She has been married since 2000 and the marriage is still going strong.

Bret Hedican is another athlete on ice, but in a whole different ice rink. The American hockey player is a Stanley Cup champion and a two-time US Olympic competitor. He played the very same year as Kristi Yamaguchi won her gold medal. He continued to play until retiring in 2009. The couple now has two daughters together.

Carli Lloyd and Brian Hollins

Carli Llyod is a midfielder in the National Women's Soccer League. The two-time Olympic gold modality and two-time FIFA champion continues to play to this day, even as she pushes 40, proving age is indeed just a number. She is married to golfer Brian Hollins.

The couple got married in 2016 in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. While Brian Hollins doesn't quite have the celebrity status that Carli Lloyd has, he's nonetheless an exceptional golfer. Not much is known about him but they are allegedly high school sweethearts and next-door neighbors.

Caroline Wozniaki is a retired danish tennis player who was once world No. 1 in singles. She held that ranking for 71 weeks and earned $35 million in prize money. After years of competing, she gave her farewell tour at the 2020 Australian series. While she was smashing the competition, Wozniaki was tied to a few different athletes in terms of dating, but ultimately found love with a basketball player.

David Lee is a former NBA player who was a two-time NBA all-star. He has played for the Knicks, the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics among others. In 2017, the couple confirmed they were dating and got engaged that very year. They finally married in June 2019, and in 2021, announced they were having their first child together.

Lisa Leslie is a former basketball player who is now a head coach in the Triplets in the BIG3 professional basketball league. In the WNBA, she was a three-time MVP and a four-time gold medalist at the Olympics. In 2015, she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

She has been married to Michael Lockwood since 2005. Lockwood is a basketball lover himself, having played it in the Airforce and now works as a pilot for UPS. In 2007, it was revealed the couple was having a baby together and she took a year off. She returned to play in 2008 and had a second child in 2010.

Brianna Theisen-Eaton is a Canadian track and field star. She has competed in multiple world champions ships and the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is married to Ashton Eaton, a decathlete who she met at the University of Oregon. He is a two-time Olympic champion who holds a world record for the heptathlon event.

The couple had met in 2006 but things hadn't got serious until 2007 at the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Brazil. Brianne Theisen and Ashton Eaton married in 2013, which was one year after they both competed at the 2013 Olympics. They are both retired and now live in San Francisco apparently.

Morgan Beck and Bodie Miller

Morgan Beck is an American volleyball player and model. At 6 foot 3 inches, she was born to play the sport. While growing up in California, she attended San Clemente High School and excelled in volleyball, even then. She got 39 kills in a single game and 544 kills in a season. After high school, she attended Berkley and was part of the volleyball team there.

A member of the United States women's national volleyball team, Morgan Beck ended up at the 2012 Olympics, where her future skiing husband Bodie Miller. They dated for just five months before tying the knot. They have four sons together, including a pair of twins.

Misty Copeland and Olu Evans

Misty Copeland is one of the most famous ballet dancers of the modern age and she's the first African American dancer to be promoted to principal dancer in American Ballet Theatre history. The highly skilled ballet dancer started at 13 years old, which is older than most prodigies. In 2015, she was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Misty Copeland married Olu Evans, an attorney back in July 2016. The couple had been introduced back in 2004 by Taye Diggs – Evan's cousin. Having been married for almost 10 years now, the happy couple is going strong with her husband acting as a significant source of support for her career.

Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne

Ronda Rousey is a professional wrestler in the WWE and a mixed martial artist in the UFC. She has an Olympic medal in Judo and is the first American woman to win one. And that was just the start of her career back in 2008. Over the years, she had been linked with UFC fighters, like Brendan Schaub, but it was Travis Browne that ultimately fought for her heart.

Travis Browne and Ronda Rousey have been confirmed to be a couple as far back as 2015. In 2017, they announced they were engaged and married that same year. Travis Browne is also a UFC fighter and heavyweight. He has been a professional fighter since 2009. As of 2021, the couple is expecting their first child.

Bethany Hamilton and Adam Dirks

Bethany Hamilton is best known for surviving a tragic 2003 shark attack while she leisurely surfed in Kauai. The tiger shark took her left arm during the attack, severing it just below the shoulder. Despite the tragedy, Hamilton went on to continue a career in professional surfing and released an autobiography in 2004, which was adapted into the 2011 titular film Soul Surfer.

Unlike most of the spouses listed so far, Hamilton’s husband is a youth minister rather than a star-studded athlete. Adam Dirks proposed to Hamilton in 2013 after dating for a year, and they married that same year in her home town of Kauai. They share three children, Tobias, Wesley, and newborn Micah.

Ana Ivanovic dominated the tennis world back in the day, winning grand slam titles from the 2008 French Open to back-to-back WTA Tournament of Champions. This Serbian superstar held the world No. 1 title for tennis for twelve consecutive weeks after defeating Dinara Safina at the aforementioned French Open in 2008.

Ivanovic might have retired from tennis in 2016, but that didn’t stop her from garnering some major wins in her personal life. For example, she secretly married German soccer player Bastian Schweinsteiger at Venice City Hall the year of her retirement and welcomed their first child two years later. Schweinsteiger has his own impressive resume, winning multiple German league titles, the Champions League, and the 2014 World Cup for Germany!

Allyson Felix and Kenneth Ferguson

Allyson Felix is an Olympic athlete, who has secured 9 Olympic medals for her top-notch running and sprinting skills. Primarily known for her 400-meter dash, she’s also dominated everything from 100 meters to the 4x400 meter relay. In fact, she is the first female track and field athlete to ever win six Olympic gold medals, the most decorated athlete in World Athletic Championships history, and is tied with Merlene Ottey as the most decorated female track-and-field Olympian.

As an athlete himself, Kenneth Ferguson realizes the dedication it takes for his wife to be so successful, and he’s completely supportive of her goals. He has his own slew of accomplishments, including competing in many national and world championships. The sprinter and hurdler has dated Felix since 2005 and shares a daughter named Camryn, who was born in 2018.

Lauren Holiday and Jrue Holiday

Lauren Holiday and Jrue Holiday

Lauren Holiday is a decorated soccer player who played as a midfielder and forward for the UCLA Bruins in college before working her way up to play for the U.S. women’s national team from 2007 to 2015. She’s won two Olympic gold medals and helped her team secure the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015 before her retirement.

Like draws to like, so it’s only natural that she married fellow athlete Jrue Holiday. The pair began dating in 2008 while they attended UCLA and Jrue was playing basketball for the collegiate team. They married on July 7, 2013, right when Jrue was traded in the NBA from the 76ers to the Pelicans.

Alicia Sacramone and Brady Quinn

Alicia Sacramone and Brady Quinn

Retired Olympian Alicia Sacramone became the second most decorated American gymnast ever after securing a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics and ten medals at the World Championships. Additionally, she became one of the first athletes to become a Covergirl, joined the Team 24 Fitness brand, and shocked the world with a risque modeling stint for the ESPN 2011 Body Issue. Naturally, the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame officially inducted her to their ranks in 2015 as well as the Louisiana Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Sacramone married former Notre Dame and NFL quarterback Brady Quinn in the spring of 2014 at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. The athletic pair have been together since 2007 and share three daughters, Sloan, Teagan, and Cassidy. Neither are currently competing in their respective fields, but Quinn took up multiple sports analyst positions for collegiate and national football since his tentative 2014 retirement.

Kerri Walsh-Jennings is best known for dominating the international beach volleyball courts alongside Misty May-Treanor for three Olympic gold medals. She started her volleyball career at Stanford as a two-time national champion and four-time All-American athlete before teaming up with May-Treanor for world domination.

Kerri Walsh’s husband Casey Jennings also played for the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), winning seven of their events on top of the 1999 BYU championships and the 2010 FIVB World Tour Gold. The pair married in 2005 and share three children. Fun fact: Walsh won the 2012 Olympic gold alongside May-Treanor while she was five weeks pregnant.

Misty May-Treanor and Matt Treanor

Misty May-Treanor and Matt Treanor

Speaking of Misty May-Treanor, she bagged her own athletic husband around the time that her teammate Kerri Walsh married Casey Jennings. Misty is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and the most successful female beach volleyball player ever, getting inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2016 after her 2012 retirement. Her pairing with Walsh earned them the title of "the greatest beach volleyball team of all time."

Professional baseball catcher Matt Treanor began dating Misty May in early 2004, going on to wed in November that same year. They now live in Florida but also own a California home. The pair share three children, daughter Malia in 2014 and fraternal twins Mele and Mia in 2017.

Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner

Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner

Romanian Nadia Comaneci won five gold medals for gymnastics at back-to-back Olympic competitions in 1976 and 1980. Most impressively, she secured the first perfect mark in Olympic history on the uneven bars in ‘76. Due to her acclaimed history, Comaneci is considered the gymnast who popularized the sport around the world. Bart Conner also won his fair share of medals for gymnastics, securing all golds for the all-around and parallel bars at the ‘84 Olympics.

Comaneci and Conner met at the ‘76 Montreal games where Conner took a special interest in the athlete. Later in 1990, Conner purposely asked to be featured on The Pat Sajak Show in order to see and surprise Comaneci. According to The New York Times, “He helped make the connections that eventually led to her escape from that abusive relationship, and a new life in Montreal with a Romanian rugby coach and his family. For a year, they were phone pals." They eventually married on April 27, 1996, in Bucharest and currently parent their son, Dylan, in Oklahoma.

Florence Griffith-Joyner and Al Joyner

Florence Griffith-Joyner and Al Joyner

If you haven’t already heard about Florence Griffith-Joyner, then you’re seriously behind. Popularly known as the fastest woman ever, Griffith secured multiple world records for the 100 and 200-meter dash and three golds at the ‘88 Olympics for the 4x100 relay. Her husband, Al Joyner, competed at the ‘84 games for the triple jump, which elevated him to the first American to win gold in 80 years and got him an esteemed Jim Thorpe Award.

While she was briefly engaged to hurdler Greg Foster, she ended up marrying Joyner in 1984 after meeting at the 1980 Olympic Trials and had one daughter, Mary, in 2990. Sadly, Griffith died in her sleep in 1998 at her home in California at the age of 38. The death was unexpected, but an investigation revealed that a severe epileptic seizure caused her to suffocate.

Lalia Ali was a professional boxer who competed from 1999 to 2007, sporting an undefeated career until her retirement. As the eighth child of Muhammed Ali, she certainly lived up to his legacy. From holding the super middleweight titles from the WBC to the IBA, she is regarded as one of the best female boxers of all time.

After a failed marriage to Johnny “Yahya” McClain, Ali married the former NFL star and wide receiver for the Chicago Bears Curtis Conway in a 2007 L.A. ceremony after her retirement from boxing. They now parent Conway’s three kids, twins Cameron and Kelton as well as daughter Leilani.

Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi

Steffi Graf is one of the most acclaimed tennis players ever for both male and female athletes. The German athlete became the first player to hold the No. 1 international ranking for a record of 377 weeks, which factors out to more than seven years! Additionally, she was the only player to achieve the title of Golden Slam by winning all Grand Slam singles titles and the Olympic gold medal in the same year. If that isn’t impressive enough, Graf is the only player ever to win every Grand Slam at least four times!

She dated race-car driver Michael Bartels for seven years before ending the relationship for fellow tennis champion Andre Agassi. They began dating after the ‘99 French Open, marrying two short years later in October 2001 in a tiny ceremony with only their mothers in attendance. They now share two kids, Jaden and Jaz, but claim they aren’t interested in forcing them to pick up tennis. Who knows, they’d probably be stars with their parents’ athletic genes!

Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Bob Kersee

Retired track and field athlete Jackie Joyner is up there among the greatest heptathlon and long jump athletes in history. Once she secured six medals at the four Olympic games, Sports Illustrated for Women voted her the Greatest Female Athlete of All-Time and, specifically, of the 20th century.

Behind every Olympic athlete is a coach who helped them make everything possible. In 1986 after years of training with him, Joyner married her track coach Bob Kersee. He was named the 2005 USATF Coach of the Year after a career of hurdling, running, and coaching countless athletes who later became coaches themselves.

Seimone Augustus and LaTaya Varner

People knew that basketball star Seimone Augustus was something special before she even joined the professional league! During her freshman year of high school in Louisiana, Sports Illustrated for Women made her a cover model with the headline “Is She the Next Michael Jordan?” She managed to live up to these expectations by becoming the WNBA’s No. 1 draft pick, a seven-time all-star, four-time MVP honoree, and an Olympic gold recipient for 2008 and 2012.

Her partner, actress LaTaya Varner, might not have such an extensive list of honors, but that stuff doesn’t matter so much to Seimone. The self-proclaimed “homebody” took LaTaya on an adorable first date to Six Flags after meeting at a bar in Memphis, which quickly turned into a lifelong romance. The pair married in a beautiful traditional outdoor ceremony in Hawaii that featured unmatched ocean views. Unfortunately, the couple divorced in 2018, and LaTaya is now associated with another woman, Latesha Buck, pictured here.

Brandi Chastain is a world-renowned soccer star. As a two-time World Cup champion, she’s known for her bold personality and controversial choices. For instance, she’s probably best known for stripping her jersey after making the winning kick for the ‘99 Women’s World Cup. Her husband, Jerry Smith, told People, "She lives life on the edge and does whatever she does with passion” after the iconic display, apparently not minding.

Chastain married soccer coach Jerry Smith in 1996 and have upheld their marriage since then. They first met while Chastain was a student at Santa Clara University while Smith coached, and the rest is history. The couple share a son, Jaden, as well as a son, Cameron, from Smith’s previous relationship.

Sydney Leroux and Dom Dwyer

Sydney Leroux and Dom Dwyer

Canadian Sydney Leroux AKA “Syd the Kid” and British Dom Dwyer have redefined the term power couple. Both made a name for themselves playing soccer. Leroux played for UCLA before going on to win Olympic gold for the U.S. in 2012 and the World Cup in 2015. Dwyer is considered one of the best players of the U.S.Major Soccer League after scoring a record-breaking 22 goals in 2014 despite breaking his right foot three times six years prior.

Leroux and Dwyer began dating in 2013 but have kept much of their relationship on the down-low, including the details of their super-secret 2015 wedding, only announcing it happened to social media a month after the ceremony. They introduced their first child Cassius to the world in September 2016 and had their first daughter Roux in June 2019.
