Quiz: Which Event Actually Happened in the '80s? In a lot of ways, the 1980s were defined by excess. Blockbuster movies were a well-established part of the cultural landscape, and they just kept getting bigger and flashier. Even direct-to-VHS B-movies started ramping up their game.

Music had its own share of excess, as well. The glam rock movement, spearheaded in the '70s by the likes of David Bowie, blossomed into a million beautifully strange things by the '80s. New Wave and hair metal pushed for louder guitars and bigger shows. The fashion of the day—and the music that accompanied it— turned androgyny into an art form unto itself.

Even the drug of choice was more energetic, somehow. The hippies of the '60s and early '70s popularized marijuana and a host of laid-back, groovy hallucinogens. But that gave way to yuppies doing cocaine—a habit immortalized in everything from Scarface to Miami Vice to Die Hard.

All of this was in spite of—or perhaps, due to—a wave or political conservatism that swept former Bedtime for Bonzo star Ronald Reagan into political office, and experienced a period of reduced regulation known today as Reaganomics.

Unless you lived in the '80s, this quiz is pretty much impossible.
