Navigating Prime Day's New Invite-Only Deals

Picture this: you're lounging on the couch, scrolling through Amazon, and suddenly you stumble upon a hidden treasure trove of jaw-dropping deals. But hold on, there's a catch – these discounts are strictly invite-only! In a move that promises to up the ante in online shopping, Amazon is shaking things up with a brand-new approach.

Gone are the days of everyone and their neighbor getting the same discounts. It turns out that Amazon is testing a new program where they’ll be rolling out personalized invitations, granting access to top-secret deals for a select group of lucky customers. So why the sudden switch?

We looked into it and found some pretty interesting reasons why Amazon would only allow certain customers to partake in certain deals. Naturally, some people are going to be upset they can’t buy some deeply discounted items, but that’s the name of the game.

For the past few years, Amazon has tried it's hand at have muliple large sale events throughout the year. Amazon Prime Day is probably the most well-known event the online retailer hosts. That 48-hour period of deals is typically in July.

Black Friday & the Christmas shopping season is another popular time for Prime deals. To churn up sales interest during the slower shopping period between those two dates, Amazon has held a sales event in October the past few years.

Prime Big Deal Days 2024 is on October 8th and 9th officially. However, some items are already seeing price drops in the days before the official sale takes place.

The event is happening around the same time it did in 2022 (Oct. 11 to 12) and 2023 (Oct. 10 to 11).

At this point, you should possibly ask what isn’t included in the deal. Everything from electronics (like TVs and headphones) to clothes are things you can buy. It just depends on what you’re interested in and your own personal search history.

If you aren't a Prime member (or even if you are), other retailers are also hosting competing sales events. You may end up finding better deals somewhere else, so be sure to shop around. These other sales events include:

  • Walmart is hosting its Holiday Deals event from Oct. 8 to 13
  • Best Buy is hosting its 48-Hour Flash Sale from Oct. 8 to 9
